We’ve been arranging flowers in Southport since 1996, and we deliver right across the Gold Coast. Here’s what actually works for dads, what to order, and — most importantly — when to order it so it arrives on time.
When is Father’s Day in Australia in 2026?
Father’s Day in Australia falls on the first Sunday of September, which in 2026 is Sunday 6 September.
It catches people out every year, because the US, UK and Canada celebrate on the third Sunday of June — that was 21 June 2026. So if you’ve got family overseas, they’ve already had theirs (we wrote a separate guide for the June date). Ours is still coming.
It’s not a public holiday, and shops trade as normal. What that means practically: most gifts get given on the Saturday or the Sunday morning, so your delivery window is really Friday 4th and Saturday 5th September. More on cut-offs below.
“But Dad doesn’t like flowers”
He probably doesn’t like pink roses in a glass vase. That’s a different thing.
After thirty years of arranging flowers for Gold Coast families, we can tell you the men’s gifts that land are the ones built with structure, texture and colour that isn’t soft. Here’s what we reach for.
Australian natives
The number one choice for men, and it isn’t close. Banksia, protea, kangaroo paw, eucalyptus, waratah — they’re bold, sculptural, they last for ages, and they don’t read as delicate. They also dry beautifully, so the arrangement doesn’t die on him in a week. If you’re buying flowers for a dad for the first time, start here.
An indoor plant instead of a bouquet
For the dad who’s practical and slightly allergic to anything he perceives as a waste of money. A plant is a gift that keeps going — and on the Gold Coast our climate does most of the work. Good ones for men: monstera, zanzibar gem, snake plant, peace lily for a shadier unit. Low fuss, hard to kill, still green in five years.
Dried arrangements
Zero maintenance, no water, no wilting. They sit on a desk or a bar shelf and look good for a year or more. Increasingly our most-requested option for men’s gifts, and a genuinely good fit for dads who live in an apartment or travel a lot.
Orchids
An underrated men’s gift, and hugely popular with our Asian customers for good reason — an orchid plant is elegant, long-lived and carries a real sense of status. A single well-presented phalaenopsis says considerably more than a bunch of servo carnations.
Flowers plus something he’ll actually consume
The formula that works best for Father’s Day is simple: one thing that looks good, one thing he can open.
Our hampers pair fresh or dried blooms with the things dads are genuinely happy to receive — a good red, a craft beer, chocolates, gourmet snacks, a bottle of bubbly for the family lunch. It solves the “flowers aren’t really a bloke’s gift” problem in one move, because now the flowers are the presentation rather than the whole present.
You can also just call us on 07 5632 8633 and tell us the budget and what he’s into. We build custom hampers all the time and we’re quicker on the phone than any website filter.
Father’s Day ideas by type of dad
The brand-new dad
His first Father’s Day. Natives or a plant, plus something for the household — nobody with a newborn needs another object to look after, but everybody with a newborn appreciates being noticed. If mum and bub are still in hospital, see below.
Grandad
Traditional works here. A generous, colourful arrangement he can put on the dining table, or a hamper he can share when the family comes over. Grandads are also the most likely to actually ring up and say thank you, which is worth something.
The dad who has everything
Go for the thing he’d never buy himself. Our Prestige Collection exists for exactly this — larger, more considered arrangements where the design is the gift.
The dad in hospital or aged care
This is the one we take most seriously. We deliver free to all six Gold Coast hospitals — including Gold Coast University Hospital, Pindara Private and the Mater (formerly Gold Coast Private). Father’s Day in a hospital room is hard, and a delivery in the morning changes the whole day.
A note for hospitals and aged care: check whether the ward accepts fresh flowers, as some units (ICU, oncology, some aged care facilities) restrict them. If yours does, a dried arrangement, a plant in a sealed pot, chocolates or a small gift are usually fine. Ring us and we’ll work it out with you.
The dad you’re not on easy terms with
It happens more than people admit, and Father’s Day is loud about it. A simple arrangement and a short card is often the right size of gesture — enough to say something, not so much that it demands a conversation nobody’s ready for. We write a lot of these cards. There’s no wrong way to do it.
Father’s Day delivery on the Gold Coast: order by these dates
Father’s Day is a Sunday, so almost everyone wants delivery on the Friday or Saturday beforehand. Those are the two days every florist’s delivery runs fill first, so here’s the honest version:
- Best case — order now. Anything booked before the last week of August gets you the full range and your preferred delivery window.
- Friday 4 September — the smoothest delivery day. Order by Wednesday 2 September to be safe.
- Saturday 5 September — the busiest delivery day of the weekend. Order by Thursday 3 September. Same-day is often still possible if you order by 2pm, but we can’t promise a time window.
- Sunday 6 September (Father’s Day itself) — we don’t deliver on Sundays, so book your delivery for Saturday and give it to him on the day — or drop into the shop on Saturday and take it home yourself.
- Left it to the last minute? Call us on 07 5632 8633. We will always try. We’d rather tell you honestly on the phone than take an order we can’t deliver.
Our standard promise the rest of the year: same-day delivery across the Gold Coast when you order by 2pm, Monday to Saturday — and after 2pm you can call us on 07 5632 8633 before 5pm (Mon–Fri) and we’ll try to make it happen. During Father’s Day week, don’t rely on it: order ahead.
Where we deliver
From our shop in Australia Fair Metro, Southport, we deliver across the whole Gold Coast — Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Labrador, Broadbeach, Bundall, Ashmore, Nerang, Robina, Helensvale, Coombabah, Arundel, Burleigh Waters, Mermaid Beach, Pimpama and everywhere between.
Frequently asked questions
When is Father’s Day 2026 in Australia?
Sunday 6 September 2026. Australia celebrates on the first Sunday of September, unlike the US and UK which celebrate on the third Sunday of June.
What flowers are best for Father’s Day?
Australian natives are the most popular choice for men — banksia, protea, kangaroo paw and eucalyptus are bold, long-lasting and sculptural. Dried arrangements, orchids and indoor plants are also excellent options for dads who’d rather not fuss over a vase.
Can I get Father’s Day flowers delivered on the Gold Coast?
Yes. We deliver across the entire Gold Coast, and free to all six Gold Coast hospitals. For Father’s Day weekend we recommend ordering by Wednesday 2 September for Friday delivery, or Thursday 3 September for Saturday delivery. We don’t deliver on Sundays, so Saturday is the day to book for.
Do you do same-day flower delivery for Father’s Day?
We offer same-day delivery across the Gold Coast when you order by 2pm, Monday to Saturday. Father’s Day weekend is busy for every florist, so same-day slots can fill — please call 07 5632 8633 to check before ordering.
What if Dad is in hospital?
We deliver free to all six Gold Coast hospitals, including Gold Coast University Hospital, Pindara Private and the Mater. Check with the ward first, as some units restrict fresh flowers — if so, we’ll suggest a dried arrangement, a plant or a gift hamper instead.
What can I send if Dad doesn’t like flowers?
Plenty. Indoor plants, dried arrangements, gourmet hampers, wine and champagne, chocolates and gift baskets are all available, and we build custom hampers to your budget — just call us.
Order early and let us do the rest
We’re a family business ourselves, so we understand the assignment. Every arrangement is made by hand in our Southport shop on the day it goes out — no warehouse, no relay service, no surprises at the door.
Order online, or call us on 07 5632 8633 and speak to one of our florists. We’ll help you get it right for your dad.
