What Do the Flowers in Your Bouquet Mean?

Every flower tells a story, and that story can change between Western and Chinese traditions. Here’s a quick guide to the most popular bouquet blooms so you can choose the perfect message for the occasion.

Flower Western meaning Chinese / Asian meaning
🌹 RoseLove and romance (the meaning shifts with the colour)Red roses mean love, luck and happiness; the top choice for romance. See our full rose colour and number guide.
🌷 TulipPerfect, declared love, especially in redWarmth and happiness; a positive, well-loved gift.
🌻 SunflowerAdoration, loyalty and happinessGood fortune, vitality and a long, happy life; a very auspicious, upbeat choice.
🌸 PeonyRomance, prosperity and good fortuneThe “king of flowers”: wealth, honour and high romance. Hugely auspicious and a favourite for weddings.
🌼 LilyPurity and refined beauty (white lilies also for sympathy)A symbol of a happy, lasting marriage and union; considered lucky for weddings.
🌺 OrchidLuxury, beauty, strength and loveNobility, integrity, refinement and friendship; also linked to a happy family.
💐 CarnationLove and fascination; pink for a mother’s loveAlso a symbol of motherly love; white carnations can be linked to mourning.
🌼 ChrysanthemumCheerfulness, friendship and joy (a popular Mother’s Day flower in Australia)Traditionally linked to mourning and funerals, so best avoided as a celebratory gift, though also a symbol of longevity.
🐉 SnapdragonGrace, strength and resilience; protection from deceptionInner strength and standing tall through hard times; a thoughtful “you’ve got this” gift.
🌾 StockLasting beauty, affection and a happy life; a bond of lasting loveEnduring affection and a contented, happy life together.
🌿 Banksia (native)Australian icon: resilience, courage and the beauty of the wildAdmired as an exotic, distinctive bloom; long-lasting and well suited to dried arrangements.

💡 Good to know: In Chinese tradition, chrysanthemums and white flowers are associated with funerals and mourning, so they’re best avoided as romantic or celebratory gifts. Red and pink blooms, along with lilies and peonies, are considered especially lucky for weddings, romance and happy occasions.

From our bench

The Bouquet That Travelled 14,000 Kilometres

Not every bouquet starts with a celebration. Sometimes it starts with a phone call.

Recently we received an order from a customer living overseas who wanted to surprise her mum here on the Gold Coast. They hadn’t seen each other in person for years, but she wanted her mum to know she was thinking of her. We carefully selected soft seasonal blooms, added a handwritten message, and delivered the flowers that same afternoon.

A few hours later, we received a message saying there were tears, smiles and a very long phone call.

It’s a lovely reminder that flowers aren’t just flowers. Sometimes they’re hugs that travel thousands of kilometres.

Flower delivery — FAQs

Honest answers to the questions we get most often.

What are your most popular flower bouquets?

A few of our most-loved bouquets on the Gold Coast: the 100 Red Rose Bouquet for grand romance, the Blushing Lily Bouquet for soft elegance, the Red Rose & White Lily Bouquet for a classic combination, and the Vanessa Elite Bouquet — our red rose, lily, carnation and gerbera mix. Browse the full range above, or call (07) 5632 8633 and we’ll help you choose.

What’s included with every flower bouquet?

Every bouquet is hand-arranged on the day in our Southport studio using fresh, seasonal blooms — never pre-made, never shipped in. Same-day delivery is available across the Gold Coast when you order by 2pm, with free delivery to all Gold Coast hospitals. A real florist on the bench since 1996, not a call centre.

How long will my flowers last?

Most bouquets and arrangements last 5–7 days with good care — out of direct sun, cool water changed every couple of days, and a fresh trim on the stems. Some blooms (lilies, chrysanthemums, native flowers) routinely go 10+ days. Care instructions are included with every order.

Do you arrange the flowers fresh or use pre-made arrangements?

Every order is hand-arranged the morning of delivery by our Southport florists — not pre-made, never sitting in a box. We’ve been doing it that way since 1996 with a real florist on the bench, not a call centre.

Can I choose specific flowers or colours?

For our Designer’s Choice arrangements we pick the freshest seasonal blooms on the day — but if you have a colour or flower preference, leave a note at checkout or call us on (07) 5632 8633 and we’ll work to it where stock allows.

Do flowers arrive in a vase or wrapped?

It depends on the product: bouquets arrive hand-tied with water and ribbon; box arrangements and hat boxes are presented ready to display (no vase needed); vase pieces arrive in their ceramic or glass vessel. Each product page shows how it’s presented.

Do you offer flower subscriptions?

Yes — weekly, fortnightly or monthly fresh flowers for homes, offices and reception desks. Call (07) 5632 8633 to set yours up and we’ll tailor the size, palette and delivery day to suit.

Need it today?
