Formal flowers are corsages and buttonholes worn for a school formal, hand-crafted to match your outfit. A corsage is worn on the wrist or pinned to a dress, and a buttonhole on a suit lapel. Flowers of Southport makes formal corsages and buttonholes on the Gold Coast in our Southport studio, colour-matched to your outfit. Order early in formal season.

Formal Flowers — FAQs

Honest answers to the questions our Gold Coast customers ask most.

What’s the difference between a corsage and a buttonhole?

A wrist corsage is a small floral piece worn on the wrist (or pinned to a dress), traditionally worn by her. A buttonhole — also called a boutonnière — is a single bloom or small cluster worn on a suit lapel, traditionally worn by him. For a school formal we make both, designed to match each other and your outfits.

Should I choose a wrist corsage or a pin-on corsage?

Both are popular for formals. A wrist corsage sits on an elastic or beaded band and is the easiest to wear all night, while a pin-on corsage pins to a dress, jacket or handbag. Tell us which you prefer and we’ll make it to suit — for delicate fabrics, a wrist band avoids pin holes.

Can you match the flowers to my dress or outfit colour?

Yes, and we love doing it. Bring in or send us a photo or a fabric swatch of your outfit and we’ll match the flowers and ribbon to your colours. Pop into our Southport studio or call us on (07) 5632 8633 to plan it.

How far in advance should I order a corsage or buttonhole?

As early as you can. Formal season is busy and corsages and buttonholes are made fresh to order, so booking ahead secures your design and colours. Last-minute is sometimes possible — call us on (07) 5632 8633 and we’ll do our best.

How do I keep my corsage fresh until the formal?

Keep it in its box in the fridge (never the freezer) until you head out, ideally with a light mist of water and away from fruit and vegetables. Take it out shortly before you leave and it’ll look its best all night.
