Tulip bouquets are arrangements built around tulips, either on their own or paired with blooms like lilies, roses or seasonal fillers. Popular styles include single-colour bunches, soft pastel mixes and bright two-tone combinations. In Australia, tulips are at their best from late autumn through spring (roughly May to October). Flowers of Southport, a family-owned Gold Coast florist since 1996, hand-arranges tulip bouquets in our Southport studio and delivers same-day across the Gold Coast when you order by 2pm.
Classic tulip bouquet styles
The single-colour bunch. A dozen tulips in one colour is the most timeless tulip style there is. Red reads romantic, yellow reads cheerful, white suits sympathy and new beginnings — clean, confident, and beautiful on its own.
The pastel mix. Soft pinks, lilacs and creams together feel gentle and spring-like. It’s a popular choice for birthdays and thank-you flowers.
The bold two-tone. Orange with purple, red with white, yellow with deep pink. Two strong colours make a tulip bouquet feel modern and deliberate rather than picked at random.
Tulips with company. Tulips pair beautifully with lilies (a customer favourite), roses and seasonal foliage. A lily and tulip bouquet gives you the tulip’s charm with the lily’s perfume and longer vase life — one of our most-requested combinations at Flowers of Southport.
Colour combinations we recommend
| Occasion | Combination |
|---|---|
| Romance / anniversary | Red tulips alone, or red + white |
| Birthday | Bright mixed tulips, or yellow + orange |
| New baby | Soft pink + cream, or lilac + white |
| Sympathy | White tulips, or white + soft green foliage |
| Just because | Pastel mix, or whatever’s freshest that week |
When are tulips in season on the Gold Coast?
Tulips are cool-climate flowers, and Australian-grown tulips are at their best from late autumn through spring (roughly May to October) — with strong availability through the winter months, when they’re one of our most-requested bouquets. June, July and August are particularly popular, when tulips are at their peak in the wholesale markets and last beautifully in the cooler Gold Coast weather.
Outside that window we can usually still source them, but we’ll be honest with you about freshness and may suggest a seasonal alternative that will last better. Call us on 07 5632 8633 and we’ll tell you what’s good this week.
Keeping a tulip bouquet fresh
A few small things make a big difference to how long tulips last:
- Trim 1–2 cm off the stems on an angle when the bouquet arrives
- Cool water, topped up daily — tulips are thirsty drinkers
- Keep away from direct sun and fruit bowls (the ethylene from ripening fruit ages flowers faster)
- Expect the stems to bend toward the light — and to keep growing slightly in the vase, which is part of their charm. Turning the vase daily keeps the shape even, and a midweek re-trim keeps them tidy.
Tulip bouquet FAQs
How long does a tulip bouquet last?
With fresh water and a cool spot, 5 to 8 days. Tulips keep growing in the vase, so re-trim the stems midweek to keep them looking their best.
Can I get a tulip bouquet delivered same-day on the Gold Coast?
Yes. Order by 2pm and Flowers of Southport delivers same-day across the Gold Coast, from Pimpama down to Tugun.
